What is "Nen Ga Jyou"?
On this page, firstly you will read a New Year's

for writing "Happy New Year" in Japanese.
By the way, we send a new year card in Japan
before the 1st of January, and it is called "Nen ga Jyou"

This card is written downwards and you start
reading at the top right, down the column.
This is the tradtionall way of writing letters or cards in
Japanese.
However, many Japanese people also write words horizontally.
So, Vertically, we read from right to left and
top to bottom.
Horizontally, we read from left to right.
Because the vertical writing is more formal or
tradtional tone, we write a New Year's greeting card in the
tradtional downwards style.

"Happy New Year" in Japanese, and
called "Kin Ga Shin Nen". There is
another way of saying which is written next
to it, "A ke ma shi te o me de tou go za
i ma su".

January, you can say the following phrase to
Japanese people.
